EFB (European Foul Brood) perhaps? We are perplexed somewhat, as these black spots are distributed throughout the frame on all <\/span><a style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TUMMNDz8HUs\" target=\"_blank\">larvae<\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\">, but the <\/span><a style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2wM6PJkMEcI\" target=\"_blank\">pollen<\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\"> cells are clean. The consistency and distribution of the black smears or spots is very even, that we think it is not bee smoker and ashes related. In which case, what is this? Fellow Beekeepers we seek\u00a0your\u00a0comments and expert diagnosis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\">We have researched the issue and cannot find anything conclusive. Please take a look at the video and let us know in the comments section or via email if you have experience with this, seen it in the past or perhaps are aware of the issue and perhaps how to treat this. European Foul Brood (EFB) is a suspect, but it does not meet all the criteria. American Foul Brood (AFB) is also not the issue here. Mold? Or other diseases we may not have come across?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\">The <\/span><a style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mahakobees.com\/store.html\" target=\"_blank\">beehive<\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\"> that this frame was extracted from was perfectly OK. The video is taken 1 day from its extraction from the hive, so you can see ants crawling around, but they would not be the cause of these black markings. Could it bee fungus? Hopefully nothing more serious like <\/span><a style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mahakobees.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">AFB<\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\"> or <\/span><a style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mahakobees.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">EFB<\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\">, even though these symptoms are not indicative of those. No other similar symptoms exist in the beehive itself and the <\/span><a style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gqjBmg7vldE\" target=\"_blank\">queen is laying<\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\"> fine. The colony is very strong, possibly too strong and is getting <\/span><a style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ykTgkmpo-KE\" target=\"_blank\">ready to swarm<\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\"> as we approach spring and warmer temperatures. If there is a treatment we should investigate, please let us know.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\">We appreciate all <\/span><a style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/mahakobees\" target=\"_blank\">beekeepers<\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;\"> opinions, feedback and advice.
